The following is a declaration of support for the re-election campaign of Sigmund Grønmo for UIB rector by ISU-UIB and the Fantoft Student Coalition. There has, during the last four years under Grønmo`s leadership, been a firm commitment to improving the study environment for students both Norwegian and international. Among others, this has been achieved by increasing the number of reading room spaces and maintaining the quality of student work spaces. The welfare of students have also been further improved by the continued support of the dental service and the medical clinic. New buildings have been built under this administration like the new student centre and the new biology building, essential to the development of the academic community; as well as a number of other buildings that are nearing completion or have been planned. These buildings will ensure that the necessary infrastructure will be in place to best serve the learning needs of the students. Under the leadership Grønmo and his team, the University of Bergen has risen over one hundred places on the Times Higher Education Supplement annual rankings. The creation of the position of vice rector for international relations was a first for a educational institution in Norway and shows vision and innovation of this team. Grønmo has shown that he will listen to the issues of international students and will continue to do so if he is re-elected as rector. Some of the things he has stated he will do for international students is to work for better funding for exchange students and researchers, setting up a reception service for foreign students, and the creation of a language center, among others. Lastly, Grønmo has shown a commitment to the advancement of student democracy, influence and participation at the University of Bergen by supporting the continuation of rector elections and having a open and rich dialogue with the student leaders and representatives. We encourage all the students, international or Norwegian to vote for Sigmund Grønmo in the rector election from March 27th to April 2nd, to ensure the progression of an open, progressive and successful university.
