Potential candidate for master LSM system at UiB?

Publisert

A number of Learning Management Systems are being tested at UiB. Eline is looking for one that is flexible and compatible enough to be the “Master” system.

Learning Management Systems (LMS) have evolved considerably in the past decade. Adaptability, modularity, and compatibility are becoming more universal features. A number LMS have been tested at UiB (Kark, Lotus, ClassFronter, Luvit, etc.)

Eline is investigating a new LMS, Coursekeeper. Coursekeeper is developed by Boxer, a Norwegian company based in Stavanger. For Erik Valevatn, the Director of Eline, one of the important features about Coursekeeper is that it is SCORM certified.

The importance of standardisation

SCORM stands for Sharable Content Object Reference Model. It was developed by Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) to try to standardise LSM programmes. Successful completion of SCORM testing is a way that an LSM programme can provide evidence of its adaptability and compatibility, and that it complies with certain internationally established standards. LSM programmes can be submitted for SCORM testing. Programmes that are successful receive SCORM certification.

Coursekeeper in use

NTNU, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, has recently signed a contract with Boxer to use Coursekeeper as their main LMS. Here in Bergen, a limited version of Coursekeeper is being tested by using it to administer the Datakort tests. NHH, the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration, recently undertook an evaluation study of a number of LSM tools. The unofficial result was that of the tools they tested, Coursekeeper was the best.
